Pecans

History

Pecans are native from North America, Indians harvested them to make provisions for winter.

The first plantations begun in USA during the XIXth century.

On a side note, Georges Washington and Thomas Jefferson, both USA president, loved pecans.

Production

The main producers are USA and Mexico with around 95% of the total production.

Harvest

Pecans trees begin to produce nuts at 5 years old.

The harvesting period is during autumn in USA and Mexico.

Countries of origin

Originating from North America, Pecans are still very present in USA and Mexico. The production in South Africa and Australia are considerate as marginal.
