Mangos

History

Mango is a tropical fruit originating from Indian and Myanmar forests where the mango tree still grows widely.

The mango tree is cultivated for 4000 years in India where is venerated by Hindus.  According to a legend, Buddha used to meditate on Human destiny under this tree.

Since the XVIth century, mango tree spread in Africa and Middle East thanks to Arabs and in America thanks to Portuguese.

Today, mangos are cultivated in all tropical countries.

Production and countries of origin

The biggest producers of mangos in the world are India, China, Indonesia and Mexico.

About dried mango, Thailand is the major producer.

Harvest

After their tenth year, mango trees begin to produce a lot of fruits. The tree can live until 100 years old.

Harvesting period is from February to July.
